Glass Shower Enclosures

Glass shower enclosures are probably the most popular type of shower enclosure, largely due to the properties of glass itself. First of all, glass looks very stylish in a modern bathroom, as it is transparent and reflects natural light very nicely.  It s also pretty practical and easy to keep clean, as its smooth surface doe not easily pick up dirt, and with the massive range of cleaners that are designed for glass, glass shower enclosures can be cleaned very easily. This is a big advantage over plastic shower enclosures which tend to pick up more dirt and age quite a bit more quickly than glass. Another advantage that glass shower enclosures have over their plastic counterparts is their strength, as the 6mm toughened glass that is normally used in shower enclosures is very strong and will survive most impacts. Plastic on the other hand can be a little brittle, and so their is a greater chance of it breaking.

The one area where glass shower enclosures are not so good is the cost, as glass is considerably more expensive than other material options. If you are on a tight budget, you might want to look at plastic shower enclosures, or a bath/ shower combination as a way to save money. However even if you have a moderate budget, most glass shower enclosures will be well within your financial reach, perhaps excepting some of the more expensive walk in shower enclosures.

Once you have decided that you want a glass shower enclosure, the next thing to do is to choose which size and style of shower enclosure you want. If you want a lot of space whilst showering, a walk in shower is a great option as they also give you plenty of room for drying once you have finished your shower.

If you have more restricted space levels, then a corner entry shower enclosure can be a great idea, as it uses up a small space in the corner of your room whilst providing you with an important piece of bathroom equipment.

Although the style of shower tends to dictate the size, sizes can still vary enormously within a style. For example, walk in showers in particular vary quite a lot in size, as some are only 800 mm x 800 mm, whilst others might be as large as 1700 mm x 800 mm. The size really depends on how much space you have and how much you can afford to spend on glass shower enclosures. A good way of deciding how much space you have is to mark out an area on your bathroom floor using masking tape until you have an ideal size, and then find a shower enclosure that is similar to this size. That way you will be better able to visualise how large the shower will look once it is installed in your bathroom.
